Reading
Reading programs at the Library are developed and delivered by the Centre for Youth Literature. The programs aim to inform and enthuse children and teenagers about books and reading. The Centre's strategy is based on the evidence-based literacy, learning and wellbeing benefits of wide reading.
are designed to enrich young people's reading and creative worlds. They offer an inspiring array of Australian writers to discover, meet and enjoy, and will help books walk off the shelves and into young people's hands.
The 2008 program comprises:
- Bendigo Booktalkers - with Sean Condon, Lee Fox and James Roy
Thursday 6 March, day sessions by arrangement
- The Arrival, Spare Parts Puppet Theatre
Tuesday 29 April-Friday 2 May, 10.30-11.20am or 12.30-1.20pm
- Talking pictures - with Shaun Tan
Wednesday 30 April, 10-11am or 1-2pm
- Talking in the library - with writers and publishing industry experts
By arrangement
- It's different for girls - with JC Burke, Sue Lawson, Julia Lawrinson and Maureen McCarthy
Friday 2 May, 9.30-11.30am or 12.45-2.45pm
- Words + music - with Ursula Dubosarsky, Michael Gerard Bauer, William Kostakis and live musicians, incuding Kim Salmon

- Bookgig on the road - with Richard J Frankland and performers

- Juicy writing - with Brigid Lowry

- The secret history of words and numbers - with Ursula Dubosarsky and David Demant
